Project Overview
Redesigned the wayfinding experience at MAR Museum after visitor research showed widespread dissatisfaction with navigating the space.
Redesigned the wayfinding experience at MAR Museum after visitor research showed widespread dissatisfaction with navigating the space.
Challenge
MAR spans multiple buildings, exhibition spaces, educational areas, and event venues, making navigation difficult for visitors and operationally complex for staff. To reach the exhibitions in the historic building, visitors had to enter the opposite building, go up to the third floor, and cross a bridge. Nothing at the entrance made that route clear, and visitors regularly got lost. The challenge was to make a counterintuitive route understandable from the moment visitors arrived, through a scalable wayfinding system that supported a cohesive visitor experience.

Design Approach
I led the service design initiative by conducting visitor research, mapping user journeys, coordinating stakeholders across curatorial, operations, architecture, and production teams, and translating insights into redesigned signage and a scalable wayfinding system implemented throughout the museum.

Results
90% visitor satisfaction rating following implementation. Designed a cohesive wayfinding system across multiple buildings that improved how visitors navigated and experienced the museum, aligning physical and operational touchpoints and contributing to a 90% visitor satisfaction rating following implementation.
